Keeping Cables Clear of Trees and Hedges
When we carry out work around telephone cables, we are always very careful as they can be delicate. Telephone cables can be fairly easy to clear around as long as the tree hasn’t grown against them over a long period of time, which can cause the cable to stretch and be under tension. This would mean when the branch is removed or cut back, it would be too long and would dangle and blow around in the wind. The cables can be tightened or replaced if needed by your broadband supplier after we have carried out the work.
Electrical cables can be a lot more difficult but we have carried out work around them successfully in the past, generally we would need to contact the power companies in charge of the line to have the power switched off during the time we are working near it or to have the power line covered in a protective material, most of the time power needs to be turned off as the cables are quite often bare with no protective materials already on them, electricity from these cables can jump to nearby people or ladders so they are the most dangerous to be cutting trees near them, if they also end up snapping from nearby trees there is a high risk of fire or someone getting hurt, you would also be without electricity!
If you have a tree or hedge near any cables and your unsure whether its a risk, give us a call, and we can come and check for you.
