Tree Maintenance

Expert tree maintenance services ensure the health and beauty of your landscape. Our team offers crown reduction, lifting, thinning, and pollarding to keep your trees thriving.

Crown Reduction

A crown reduction aims to make a tree smaller whilst preserving its structure so it can regrow in a balanced, aesthetically pleasing, and natural manner. It is one of the most common types of work we do on trees that are being kept and maintained.

When reducing trees, our goal is to minimise the tree’s reaction to pruning while meeting the client’s objectives and adhering to industry guidelines. Tree reduction is particularly necessary for trees that block sunlight, grow near obstructions like telephone cables, or are located in small back gardens or public areas.

Crown Thinning

Crown thinning is a pruning method that focuses on the outer portions of the canopy, leaving as many branches on the interior crown as possible. In some cases, individual branches or sections of the tree may need to be removed or shortened to reduce the trees density, eliminate interference with objects and structures, or compensate for structural weaknesses.

Thinning can improve the trees structure and allow for more light and air to move through the canopy. Research has shown that thinning significantly reduces wind resistance and subsequent storm damage. We take into consideration the trees structure and future growth patterns when it is thinning.

Crown Lifting

Crown lifting involves the selective removal of the lower branches of a tree’s crown to increase the distance between the base of the canopy and the ground level, effectively raising the crown.

Lower branches may require pruning for similar reasons to crown thinning. Such as increasing light for grass and ground coverage plants beneath the tree, or perhaps removing obstructions. This type of pruning should ideally be done before the tree reaches maturity to avoid large wounds.

Pollarding

Pollarding is a traditional tree pruning method only suitable for certain species, where the main branches’ tops are cut right back. This promotes dense foliage growth and prevents trees from outgrowing their allotted space; by casting excessive shade, obstructing wires and streetlights, or blocking gutters.

While pollarding is effective for larger trees in confined areas and can prevent their outright removal, it is not something we like to do often as it can shorten the tree’s lifespan. This pruning technique is commonly observed on street trees or those located under power lines.

CASE STUDY

  • Hit & Miss Fencing Installation

When a customer approached us about a dead hedge infested with ivy, it was clear action was needed to ensure safety and maintain privacy. Positioned alongside a busy path and road, the unstable hedge posed a risk to the public. Instead of waiting for a new hedge to grow, the customer opted for a more immediate and durable solution, hit or miss fencing.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

  • Troy quoted me for cutting a very large and very overgrown beech hedge. He and his brother Byron arrived spot on the time agreed and did a brilliant job. The hedge has never looked better and everything was cleared away afterwards. They were both really friendly and I have arranged for them to return when my other hedges need cutting

  • Troy and his team spent 2 days cutting trees surrounding our property and removing stumps where required. They were very particular in clearing up after themselves, were extremely polite. I would have no hesitation in recommending to others and indeed we will be contacting them again when need arises.

We can not praise and recommend Troy and his colleagues enough. Troy came round to have a look at the work we required, we received a quotation after a few days and were fortunate to have the work completed the following week. The chaps worked hard and quickly all day. Within three days are old hedge was out, roots removed and new fencing in! Fantastic job, and we are thrilled with the fence. Lots of good comments by passers-by.

Excellent work, really impressed with Troy’s communication and he did a fantastic job at a very fair price. Troy sent us before and after pictures as we do not live in the area where the tree work needed to be carried out and this gave us reassurance. He took all the rubbish away and left the area immaculate.

I used Troy’s company for a stump grinding and some limb removal of another tree. All work was carried out efficiently and tidily and I was very pleased with the results. Troy was very punctual on the day the work was done and the day he attended to give me a quote ( something that rarely happens these days and was greatly appreciated.) Troy and his staff were very polite and friendly and respectful of my property. I would use them again and can definitely recommend them.
