Late Autumn into Winter is best time of year to have your tree cut back depending on the species or checked over for several reasons. Even if it is evergreen, most leaves are falling off, which can make it easier to see any damage within the tree that may cause future failure and as the tree will be dormant soon, it will no longer be full of sap, which is also better for the health of the tree if pruned; otherwise, during summer it will bleed out sap, which is an important part of tree health. For evergreens, it is mainly down to the fact there are no birds nesting at this time of year, whereas if there were, we couldn’t touch the tree until they left the nest.
